What Is What?

A lie is not just a lie. The twisted pieces of information that are put into circulation can definitely be classified into types. In order to take a differentiated view of the situation, we can divide untrue information into these three categories:

Misinformation – False information which, however, was not generated with the intent of doing harm

Disinformation – False and purposely generated information that is intended to harm an individual, social group, organization or country

Malinformation – information that is based on truth but intentionally taken out of context and used to damage an individual, organization or country
